Oschki is one of the most important monasteries in eastern Turkey from the 10th century. Oschki was built in Armenian style, but the area belonged at that time to the Georgian kingdom of Tayk (Tao). According to an inscription inside the church, it had been donated by the two ruling brothers David and Bagrat.
